Spring Cleaning

Spring is a time of renewal and fresh starts. After a busy season many of us are in need of a new start. Before the weather turns hotter many patients are coming in to see their plastic surgeon for skin rejuvenation and help with turning back the aging process.

Limiting sun exposure is a must for healthy skin.  Always wear sun block and a hat to protect your face from the sun’s harmful rays. Look at the skin under your swim suit, it is smooth and has few sun spots compare it to skin that has had a lot of sun exposure. Physician directed skin care helps renew your skin. If your skin care treatments are not treatment enough then chemical peels can be utilized to remove the aged skin. A light chemical peel causes a few days of peeling and it will give you a fresh appearance to your skin.  A more complete rejuvenation can be done with deeper peels or fractional CO2 lasers.

The DOT© fractional CO2 laser offers the benefits of a traditional CO2 laser with less down time and faster recovery. Usually a series of three treatments is required to complete the process.  Dermal fillers can be added to these skin treatments for a non-surgical facial rejuvenation. The Rosato Plastic Surgery Center has also been offering Sculptra© for augmenting the face when volume has been lost due to aging. Of course the gold standard for treating volume loss is fat grafting. Many times fat grafting or Sculptra© are added to a limited facelift to help those with minor signs of aging or those who need a touch up of a previous face lift.

There are many non- invasive treatments to help the aging face. Dr. Rosato has evaluated most of these technologies and many of these treatments he has found to be very expensive with a minor amount of improvement.  As a matter of fact many treatments cost just as much as a traditional facelift with results far inferior to conventional surgery.  The facts are that many of the short scar facelifts of today heal in a few weeks with dramatically better results and last a lot longer than non-invasive treatments.  Beware of marketing ads that appear too good to be true. They usually make claims that are not realistic.

As a board certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Rosato can offer you all treatment modalities. He is not limited to non-invasive treatments and injections. Many patients are not aware that any physician can offer cosmetic procedures in their office. There are no regulations or laws’ directing which physician is qualified to offer cosmetic treatments. The patient needs to be an educated consumer. You can review a physician’s board certifications on the web by searching, “Is my doctor board certified?” http://www.abms.org/ Be sure to confirm that they are board certified in a specialty that is an expert in cosmetic surgery.
