New treatment for cellulite?

Treatment of cellulite to date has not been very effective. Temporary improvement can be obtained with many contemporary devices usually at a great cost. Cellulite affects many women and some men. It is caused by connections between the skin and the underlying supportive tissue. It affects overweight as well as normal weight individuals. It often has a hereditary component.

Current treatments include invasive lasers as well as surface devices that heat the skin and underlying fat.  The laser shows the greatest promise but it is very expensive and user dependent.

Injections that dissolve scar have been reported to be of benefit in the treatment of cellulite. A new product that has been used to dissolve scarring in the palm of the hand is in trail use to treat cellulite. Plastic surgeons and Hand surgeons have been using this product for years. The researches at Stony Brook School of Medicine have been using injections to treat cellulite with promising success. They are in the last phase of FDA research trails and a seeking FDA approval to use the injections to treat cellulite.

If the injections are approved to treat cellulite, then the treatments will be done as an outpatient with oral sedation or local anesthesia in the doctor’s office.
